Alan C. Mullen, M.D., Ph.D.
Alan Mullen is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Assistant in Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where he continues to see patients in the MGH Liver Center. He is Principal Faculty at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI), a member of the Harvard PhD Program in Biomedical and Biological Sciences (BBS), an Associate Member of the Broad, and a Pew Biomedical Scholar. Alan grew up in Alabama and received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University with a double major in Molecular Biology and Chemical Engineering. He was in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) at the University of Chicago before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania to follow his thesis advisor. He received his MD from the Perelman School of Medicine and his PhD from the Immunology Graduate Group at Penn, working in the laboratory of Steven Reiner. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Gastrointestinal Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. During the research phase of his GI Fellowship, he worked as postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Richard Young at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. Alan established an independent laboratory at MGH in 2012.
